DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

Supervisor Hannigan recommends that the Board of Supervisors adopt and present a resolution recognizing June 2024 as Gun Violence Awareness Month and June 7, 2024, as Gun Violence Awareness Day.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

Gun violence is an epidemic that robs our communities and families of our children, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, and friends.  Solano County residents continue to fight to end gun violence and we must work together to address all aspects of gun violence, including historical systemic barriers, mental health issues and other exacerbating issues.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the department’s FY2023/24 Working Budget.  The costs associated with preparation and purchase of the resolution materials are included in the Board’s FY2023/24 Working Budget.

ALTERNATIVES:

The Board of Supervisors could choose not to adopt the resolution, however that is not recommended because this is an opportunity to recognize Gun Violence Awareness.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

None
