DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

Supervisor Mashburn requests that the Board of Supervisors approve the reappointment of Mark Cooley to serve on the Silveyville Cemetery District Board of Trustees representing District 5 for a term to expire on March 23, 2029.

SUMMARY / DISCUSSION:

Mark Cooley has called Dixon home for 68 years and resides in the cemetery district boundaries. A retired farmer, he cultivated crops of tomatoes, alfalfa, almonds, walnuts, sunflowers, and more; but it was his corn crop that landed him in the Guinness Book of World Records for designing the world’s largest corn maze - twice! Mr. Cooley has brought that same farmers’ ethic and creativity to the cemetery board in his first term and is honored to continue to serve his community in this capacity.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the department’s FY2024/25 Working Budget.

ALTERNATIVES:

The Board could choose not to reappoint Mark Cooley, but that is not recommended as he has spent his life carefully tending the land and using it provide for others, qualities that have made him a wonderful member of the cemetery board for the last four years.
