DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

The District Attorney recommends the Board of Supervisors acknowledge the selection of Cedric Smith as the “Employee of the Month” for August 2024, making him eligible to use the parking space designated under this program.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

On September 13, 2005, the Board of Supervisors established the County Government Center “Employee of the Month” parking program for County employees.  Each month a county department is designated to select one of its employees as "Employee of the Month."   The District Attorney’s Office has been designated to select an employee for August 2024 and has selected Cedric Smith.

Cedric Smith has worked for Solano County for over 16 years and transferred to the District Attorney’s Office on July 30, 2021 as a Legal Secretary. Mr. Smith has dedicated his career to public service, serving his country as a Marine and at the Solano County Sheriff’s Office as a Legal Procedures Clerk prior to promoting to Legal Secretary with the Solano County District Attorney’s Office.

During the time Mr. Smith has been with the District Attorney’s Office, he has worked as a Legal Secretary for the Subpoena Service Unit within the Bureau of Investigations.

Cedric has a “can-do” attitude and is always willing to help wherever he can. Mr. Smith can work independently but enjoys the camaraderie of working in a team atmosphere as well. He always gives his best effort, takes the initiative in areas in which he is familiar with, and is willing to learn in other areas to help out as much as he can.

Because of Cedric’s character and work ethic, he is a great representative of the District Attorney’s Office and Solano County. Therefore, he is deserving of the “Employee of the Month” recognition.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

There is no fiscal impact associated with this designation. The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the department’s FY2024/25 Working Budget.

ALTERNATIVES:

The Board of Supervisors could elect to not accept designation of the recommended employee; however, such action is not recommended as Mr. Smith’s exemplary job performance is deserving of recognition under the Board’s “Employee of the Month Parking” program.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

None.
