DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
The Department of Child Support Services recommends that the Board adopt and present a resolution recognizing August 2024 as Child Support Awareness Month in Solano County.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Solano County recognizes that every child matters and joins the 47 California local child support agencies and the nation in recognizing August 2024 as Child Support Awareness Month. This year’s theme, Shelter. Safety. Solutions. Support., encompasses all things child support and raising awareness about child support and the child support program will encourage more parents to utilize available services that can bring economic stability, promoting the safety and well-being of their child or children.
California Department of Child Support Services (CA DCSS) understands that families come in all shapes and sizes and the services provided through California’s child support program are as diverse as the people who use them. As parents adapt to support their children, each parent in their own way, CA DCSS has updated some of its programs to develop a more adaptable and collaborative case management approach.
The dedicated staff of Solano County Department of Child Support Services (Solano DCSS) continue to offer a neutral go-between for parents and assist both parents with navigating the child support program through case management. Just over 20,000 children are served by Solano DCSS.
Solano County acknowledges the importance of child support and its impact on the children and families within the County. The future of a child’s wellbeing and happiness begins with their parents and child support aides in this endeavor.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The costs associated with preparation and purchase of the resolution materials are included in the Board’s FY2024/25 Working Budget.
