DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

The Health & Social Services Department recommends that the Board of Supervisors adopt a resolution and a plaque of appreciation honoring Renee Smith, Social Worker II, upon her retirement from the Employment and Eligibility Services Division with over 21 years of dedicated public service to Solano County.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

Renee Smith started working for Solano County Health and Social Services on September 16, 1997 as an Eligibility Worker in the Medi-Cal program. Over the years she went on to become a lead worker as an Eligibility Benefits Specialist III serving the older and disabled adult population.  Ms. Smith was later promoted to Eligibility Benefits Specialist Supervisor where she oversaw the General Assistance unit and then the Outstation unit. In 2016, Ms. Smith earned her master’s degree and changed her career focus to become a Social Worker conducting assessment counseling for Welfare-to-Work participants and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) advocacy for disabled General Assistance recipients.  Throughout her Solano County career, Ms. Smith has demonstrated compassion, integrity and flexibility.  She is a true team player willing to go the extra mile for her team.

Ms. Smith retired from Solano County on August 20, 2019. She will continue working on her clinical hours to become a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and she is looking forward to traveling and spending more time with her 3 adult children.

We extend our sincere and grateful appreciation to Renee Smith for her dedicated service to Solano County Health and Social Services, congratulate her on her well-earned retirement, and wish her continued success, happiness, and good health in the years to come.
