DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board acknowledge the Public Defender’s selection of Laurie Best for the “Employee of the Month” Parking Program for May 2020, making her eligible to use the parking space designated for this program.
SUMMARY:
On September 13, 2005, the Board of Supervisors established the County Government Center “Employee of the Month” parking program for County employees. Each month a County department is designated to select one of its employees as “Employee of the Month.” The Public Defender has been designated to select an employee for May 2020.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The cost associated with preparing this agenda item is nominal and absorbed by the Department’s FY2019/20 Adopted Budget.
DISCUSSION:
Laurie Best began her career with the Public Defender’s Office on October 1, 2016 as an extra help legal secretary and became a permanent employee on December 19, 2016. Her technical savvy has been of great assistance during our transition to the new electronic case management system, and she often looks for ways to streamline processes and shares that information with her teammates. During COVID-19 she has been an active team participant, providing innovative suggestions to assist the clerical unit transition to telework. Ms. Best has adjusted well during what have been challenging times within the department and we look forward to many more years of her “can do” attitude and team support.
As a valuable member of the Public Defender’s team, Ms. Best is commended and recognized for exemplifying Department’s core values of teamwork, flexibility, communication, professionalism and positive attitude. As such, she has been selected as the May 2020 “Employee of the Month.”
ALTERNATIVES:
The Board could elect to name someone else as the “Employee of the Month”; however, this alternative is not recommended since Ms. Best is deserving of the Board of Supervisors’ “Employee of the Month” Parking Program.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
The County Administrator’s Office concurs with the Department’s recommendation.
