DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
The District recommends the Board of Directors of the Suisun Fire Protection District adopt a resolution authorizing the Suisun Fire Protection District, with concurrence from the District Administrator, to submit grant applications in support of acquisition of fire protection related equipment and trainings.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The Suisun Fire Protection District regularly seeks grants to enhance operational readiness, firefighter safety, and overall service delivery to the community while leveraging external funding sources to minimize impacts to District revenues. Many of these grants have short application timelines, making obtaining approval to apply before application deadlines sometimes challenging and/or unfeasible. Adoption of this resolution does not obligate the District to accept any specific grant award but provides the authority necessary for staff to pursue eligible funding opportunities as they become available.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Adoption of this resolution has no immediate fiscal impact. If a grant application is successful, certain grant programs may require a local matching contribution or cost share, which could range from a minimum five percent (5%) match to a fifty percent (50%) cost share, depending on grant-specific requirements. Any required match or cost share would be evaluated and returned to the Board of Directors for review and approval at the time of grant acceptance and would be funded through existing appropriations or other identified funding sources, subject to Board direction.
ALTERNATIVES:
The Board could choose to not adopt the resolution. This is not recommended as it will provide the District greater ability to apply for grants, many of which have short windows of time for application completion.
