DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

The Sheriff recommends that the Board of Supervisors adopt and present a resolution and plaque of appreciation honoring Supervising Public Safety Dispatcher Joanna Wilson upon her retirement from the Sheriff’s Office with over 27 years of dedicated public service to Solano County.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

Joanna Wilson began her career with Solano County Sheriff’s Office as a Public Safety Dispatcher (Entry) on January 11, 1998, promoted to Public Safety Dispatcher on January 10, 1999, to Public Safety Dispatcher (Senior) on January 7, 2001, and Public Safety Dispatcher (Supervising) on July 1, 2018, where she served until her retirement. Joanna worked numerous positions within the dispatch division, she served as a trainer for new dispatchers, and in various roles on Sheriff’s Office teams such as a Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team (SERT) Tactical Dispatcher assistant leader, on the recruitment/public relations team, as a California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (CLETS) trainer, as a Fire Incident Dispatch Team member, and a member of the Solano County Fireman’s Association.

Joanna has repeatedly been recognized for her support of other agencies during critical events such as fallen officer funerals, former officer funerals, hostage situations, and civil unrest. In 2006, Joanna received a Letter of Commendation from the Suisun Police Department for her off duty assistance in a rollover vehicle crash in which Joanna helped to keep the victim calm and stayed on scene throughout the incident. Joanna received the Dispatcher of the Year award in 2011.

Joanna is known to be an asset to her team; her excellent work ethic, effective communication skills, dependability, cheerfulness, outstanding rapport with coworkers and callers, and, above all, as a positive role model for new dispatchers.

Joanna is a highly respected and valued member of the Sheriff’s Office and will be greatly missed by her friends and co-workers. The resolution honors Joanna Wilson for her over 27 years of service and commends her dedication and public service to Solano County. Joanna Wilson’s official last date of employment with the Sheriff’s Office is May 7, 2025.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The cost associated with preparing the agenda item is nominal and absorbed by the department’s FY2024/25 Working Budget. The costs associated with the preparation and purchase of the resolution materials and plaque are included in the Board’s FY2024/25 Working Budget.

ALTERNATIVES:

The Board may elect not to adopt a resolution and plaque of appreciation; however, this is not recommended, as this is an opportunity to honor Public Safety Dispatcher (Supervising) Joanna Wilson for her years of public service to the Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Solano County.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

There is no other agency involvement.
