DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

The Suisun Fire Protection District recommends that the Board of Directors:

1)                     Accept a donation of one 2008 Ford F-250 from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District to the Suisun Fire Protection District; and

2)                     Approve an Appropriation Transfer Request recognizing $4,000 to record the donation of the vehicle based on fair market value offset by appropriations to record the donated equipment at its purchase price (4/5 vote required).

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District has donated one 2008 Ford F-250 to the Suisun Fire Protection District. Acceptance of the vehicle will add a District asset for operational and support use.  The district intends to convert this vehicle to a quick response vehicle (QRV) for use by Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) volunteer personnel for provision of Basic Life Support (BLS) within the district.

Staff requests that the Board of Directors formally accept the donation and approve an Appropriation Transfer Request to recognize the fair market value of the donated vehicle in the District’s financial records.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The donated 2008 Ford F-250 has a fair market value of approximately $4,000. The proposed Appropriation Transfer Request of $4,000 will record the donated vehicle and recognize corresponding unanticipated donated revenue. Any future costs for insurance, maintenance, and repairs will be absorbed by District appropriations.

ALTERNATIVES:

The Board could choose to decline the donation; however, this action is not recommended as it would prevent the District from operating an additional QRV asset.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.
