DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
The Solano County Veterans Services Office recommends that the Board adopt and present a resolution recognizing November 11, 2026, as Veterans Day and honoring all Solano County residents who have served and are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Each year on November 11, Solano County joins communities across the nation in observing Veterans Day to honor the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. This recognition provides an opportunity to express gratitude for their service, reflect on the sacrifices they and their families have made, and acknowledge their role in protecting our nation and its freedoms. Solano County has a longstanding connection to military service through Travis Air Force Base and the veterans, active-duty personnel, military families, and support networks who call our community home. Their service and commitment are an important part of the County’s history and identity.
The contributions of veterans extend beyond their time in uniform. Through public service, employment, volunteerism, civic engagement, and veterans service organizations, they continue to strengthen our communities and support fellow service members and their families. Veterans Day also serves as a reminder of the importance of helping veterans transition to civilian life and connect with the benefits, resources, and services they have earned. By adopting and presenting this resolution, the Board of Supervisors honors Solano County residents who have served and are currently serving, recognizes the families who support them, and reaffirms the County’s commitment to supporting veterans throughout the year.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the Department’s FY2026/27 Working Budget. The costs associated with preparation and purchase of the resolution materials are included in the Board’s FY2026/27 Working Budget.
ALTERNATIVES:
The Board may choose not to adopt and present this resolution; however, this is not recommended as Veterans Day is a time to honor the veterans of this great country who have contributed to the success and freedoms that we enjoy.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
None.
