DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
Supervisor James recommends that the Board of Supervisors adopt and present a resolution recognizing Wednesday, February 11, 2026, as “211 Day” in Solano County, to increase public awareness of 211 Bay Area, a vital community resource that provides free, confidential support 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
211 has long served as a trusted and accessible resource for Solano County residents seeking assistance during times of need. Data consistently shows that residents rely on 211 as a first point of contact to obtain accurate information and referrals to critical services, including housing support, food assistance, health care, mental health resources, and disaster response. Its availability 24 hours a day, seven days a week, ensures that residents can access help regardless of time, language, or circumstance.
Through the County’s partnership with United Way Bay Area, 211 has been effectively promoted as a centralized access point for community services, increasing public awareness and strengthening connections between residents and service providers. This collaboration has resulted in a growing number of referrals and improved coordination across social service systems, helping residents navigate complex networks of care more efficiently.
Continued collaboration presents an opportunity to build upon this strong foundation by expanding outreach, improving data-sharing and service coordination, and ensuring that information provided through 211 remains accurate, timely, and responsive to evolving community needs. Strengthening this partnership will further support equitable access to services, particularly for vulnerable populations who may face barriers to navigating traditional systems of care.
We welcome the opportunity to deepen our partnership with United Way Bay Area to enhance service integration, align resources, and ensure that 211 remains a reliable, high-quality gateway to essential services for all Solano County residents.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the Board’s FY2025/26 Working Budget. The costs associated with preparation and purchase of the resolution materials are included in the Board’s FY2025/26 Working Budget.
