DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

The Sheriff recommends that the Board of Supervisors adopt and present a resolution and plaque of appreciation honoring Deputy Sheriff David Curl upon his retirement from the Sheriff’s Office with over 32 years of dedicated public service to Solano County.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

David H. Curl began his career with the Solano County Sheriff’s Office as a Correctional Officer on March 8, 1987 and promoted to Deputy Sheriff on April 21, 1996. During his career, Deputy Curl served in multiple bureaus, including Patrol, Courts, Coroner, Investigations, Sheriff’s Enforcement Team, and Transportation.

Deputy Curl was selected as a Field Training Officer where he mentored, trained and developed numerous deputy sheriffs.  He also served as the Department Armorer and a Taser Instructor. Deputy Curl served on several Sheriff’s Office specialty teams as a member of the Crowd Control Team, Recruitment Team, Honor Guard, and Public Safety Technology Team.  Deputy Curl also served on the Sheriff’s SWAT Team for more than 20 years as an operator and as a sniper, putting himself in harm's way while dealing with hazardous situations such as high-risk warrant services, barricaded subjects, and hostage rescues.

Deputy Curl was a highly respected and valued member of the Sheriff’s Office and will be greatly missed by his friends and co-workers.  The resolution honors David H. Curl for his over 32 years of service and commends his dedication and public service to Solano County. Deputy Curl’s official last date of employment with the Sheriff’s Office was June 21, 2019.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The cost associated with preparing the agenda item is nominal and absorbed by the Department’s FY2019/20 Adopted Budget. The costs associated with preparation and purchase of the resolution materials and plaque are included in the Board’s FY2019/20 Adopted Budget.

ALTERNATIVES:

The Board may elect not to adopt a resolution and plaque of appreciation; however, this is not recommended, as this is an opportunity to honor Deputy Sheriff David H. Curl for his years of public service to the Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Solano County.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

None.
