DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
The Department of Health and Social Services recommends that the Board of Supervisors adopt and present a resolution recognizing the week of August 2 - 8, 2026, as Health Center Week in Solano County.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The National Association of Community Health Centers has designated the week of August 2-8, 2026, as National Health Center Week. This annual recognition highlights the essential role community health centers play in improving public health and expanding access to high-quality, affordable health care.
This year’s theme is “Building Innovative Care Where It Matters Most.” Community health centers comprise the nation’s largest primary care network. Across the United States, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and other health center organizations serve approximately 52 million patients annually and employ more than 310,000 healthcare professionals and support staff nationwide. In addition to providing primary and preventive care, community health centers address social, economic, and environmental factors that affect health and contribute to disparities in health outcomes.
National Health Center Week provides an opportunity to recognize Solano County’s community health centers and clinics, including Solano County Family Health Services, CommuniCare+OLE, La Clínica de la Raza, and Community Medical Centers. These organizations provide essential services to residents who are uninsured, have limited incomes, or receive health coverage through Medi-Cal.
Collectively, these community health centers serve nearly 59,000 Medi-Cal members, representing approximately 12.9 percent of Solano County’s population. They have also earned recognition from Partnership HealthPlan of California for improving timely screenings for cervical cancer, breast cancer, diabetes, and colorectal cancer.
Through their commitment to prevention, early intervention, and accessible care, Solano County’s community health centers strengthen the local health care safety net, improve health outcomes, and help reduce the need for more costly emergency and hospital services.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The costs associated with preparation and purchase of the resolution materials are included in the Board’s FY2026/2027 Working Budget.
ALTERNATIVES:
The Board may choose not to adopt this resolution. However, this is not recommended as National Health Center Week is an opportunity to recognize the vital safety net that Community Health Centers serve locally and nationally.
