DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

The Sheriff recommends that the Board of Supervisors adopt a resolution and plaque of appreciation honoring Jason Garrison, Correctional Officer, upon his retirement from the Sheriff’s Office with over 29 years of dedicated service to Solano County.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

Jason Garrison began his career with Solano County Sheriff’s Office as a Correctional Officer (Entry) on September 25, 1995 and was promoted to Correctional Officer on September 22, 1996. Office Garrison worked numerous positions within the Custody Division, including Maximum Security Officer, Training Officer, Classification Officer, Court Holding Officer, Rover, and Programs Officer.

In 2007, then Sheriff Gary Stanton recognized Officer Garrison for his outstanding efforts in ensuring the safe evacuation of inmates during a bomb threat. Officer Garrison received a commendation in 2009 from a Deputy County Counsel in recognition of his exceptional ability to secure the cooperation and trust of an inmate with multiple cognitive impairments, a feat that had presented significant challenges for others. Officer Garrison’s actions secured the trust of the inmate allowing for the Public Guardian and the Court to work toward getting the inmate the appropriate care he need.

In 2013, Officer Garrison was selected by the Sheriff’s Office as Correctional Officer of the Year for 2012 for his positive attitude, internal drive for continuous learning and improvement.

Officer Garrison was known for his exceptional ability to communicate effectively with inmates and colleagues. He demonstrated a strong work ethic characterized by professionalism, reliability, and conscientiousness. Officer Garrison possessed a robust command of decision-making and problem-solving techniques. His approach was consistently regarded as fair, firm, and equitable.

Officer Garrison was a highly respected and valued member of the Sheriff’s Office and will be greatly missed by his friends and co-workers. The resolution honors Jason Garrison for his over 29 years of service and commends his dedication and public service to Solano County. Jason Garrison’s official last date of employment with the Sheriff’s Office was December 30, 2024.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The cost associated with preparing the agenda item is nominal and absorbed by the department’s FY2024/25 Working Budget. The costs associated with the preparation and purchase of the resolution materials and plaque are included in the Board’s FY2024/25 Working Budget.

ALTERNATIVES:

The Board may elect not to adopt a resolution and plaque of appreciation; however, this is not recommended, as this is an opportunity to honor Correctional Officer Jason Garrison for his years of public service to the Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Solano County.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

County Administrative Office ordered the plaque and finalized the resolution for Board presentation.
