DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
Supervisor Vasquez requests the Board adopt and present a resolution recognizing July 29, 2025 as the 78th anniversary of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers and honor the Solano Realtist Association for advancing democracy in housing.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The National Association of Real Estate Brokers, Inc. (NAREB) was established on July 29, 1947, in Tampa, Florida, as a civil rights and advocacy organization committed to promoting equal opportunity for African American real estate professionals, consumers, and communities. Since its founding, NAREB has played a pivotal role in advancing fair housing, equal opportunity, and community development policies at the local, state, and federal levels.
Members of NAREB are known as Realtists, representing a broad range of disciplines across the real estate industry. For 78 years, Realtists have upheld the organization's enduring mission: Democracy in Housing.
Despite progress, Black families continue to face significant barriers to homeownership and often experience fewer financial gains from it compared to white families. According to the 2024 State of Housing in Black America report, the Black homeownership rate in 2023 was just 45.7 percent-sharply lower than the 74.3 percent rate for white households.
Realtists work to close this gap through a national network of 90 chapters across 33 states, including a dedicated state association and the Solano Realtist Association. Locally, Solano County Realtists are guided by the principle that every individual-regardless of race, creed, or color-has the right to fair and equal access to housing. They are steadfast in their commitment to protecting the right to homeownership for all Americans and to serving historically unserved and underserved communities.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the District 4 FY2025/26 Working Budget. The costs associated with the preparation and purchase of the resolution materials are included in the Board’s FY2025/26 Working Budget.
ALTERNATIVES:
The Board could choose not to adopt and present this resolution, however, that is not recommended as this is an opportunity to recognize the National Association of Real Estate Brokers for their work to ensure equal housing opportunities for all as well as to honor the contributions of the Solano Realtist Association for their work in the community to promote “Democracy in Housing.”
