DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
The Public Defender’s Office recommends that the Board of Supervisors adopt and present a resolution and plaque of appreciation honoring Pamela Boskin, Deputy Public Defender V, upon her retirement from the Public Defender’s Office with over 31 years of dedicated public service to Solano County.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Pamela Boskin began her career with the Office of the Public Defender on September 19, 1994, as a Deputy Public Defender I. During her career at the Public Defender’s Office she continually promoted, ultimately to the position of Deputy Public Defender V on April 13, 2014.
Ms. Boskin has been an integral part of the Public Defender’s Office for decades. She has served in every capacity in the office, handling juvenile cases, adult misdemeanor and felonies, as well as specialty courts and civil commitments. She has over the years served as the lead attorney of the Misdemeanor Unit, the Juvenile/Specialty Court Unit and has supervised our social workers.
Over the past 30 years Ms. Boskin has mentored dozens of attorneys. Many of lawyers in the office have been the beneficiary of her support and training.
Ms. Boskin’s empathy and patience in dealing with people of all abilities is unparalleled. This has enabled her to develop relationships with her clients that have helped them to better participate in their defense, which has in turn resulted in better outcomes for their future. She has been a steady and consistent advocate for ensuring fair treatment, respect and protection of the fundamental rights of our clients in every aspect of the justice system.
Over the years, Ms. Boskin has fostered a culture of excellence and collaboration. Her legacy of hard work and genuine care for the people we serve will continue to influence the Public Defender’s Office for years to come.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The cost associated with preparing the agenda item is nominal and absorbed in the department’s FY2025/26 Working Budget. The cost associated with preparation of the resolution and purchase of the plaque of appreciation is included in the Board’s FY2025/26 Working Budget.
ALTERNATIVES:
The Board could choose not to approve the resolution and plaque of appreciation; however, this is not recommended because this is an opportunity to recognize Pamela Boskin’s dedication and outstanding contributions to the County and the community.
