DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
The Department of Health and Social Services (H&SS) recommends that the Board adopt and present a resolution and plaque of appreciation honoring Loretta Lanning, Clerical Operations Supervisor, upon her retirement from the Employment & Eligibility Services (E&ES) Division with over 27 years of dedicated public service to Solano County.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Loretta Lanning began her career with Solano County on September 3, 1991, as a Clerical Support Specialist, which was later reclassified to an Office Assistant III. Ms. Lanning worked in various capacities within H&SS including working in Staff Development, Fiscal Issuance, Records, General Assistance, Public Guardian, Reception Supervisor, CalWORKs, and Child Welfare Services. After working in Child Welfare for 8 years, Ms. Lanning promoted in 2016 to a Clerical Operations Supervisor in Employment and Eligibility where she was assigned to the Vacaville Clerical Unit. Regardless of her role in H&SS, Ms. Lanning’s primary goal was always to serve the public promptly and to treat everyone including the most vulnerable citizens with dignity and respect.
When Ms. Lanning started working in Vacaville, she was highly respected and valued by all staff seeking her guidance and assistance. Ms. Lanning was a “hands on” supervisor who led by example and was always willing to step in and perform the work of the unit, whether by assisting clients at the reception window, processing applications or answering calls from the public.
When Ms. Lanning was recently asked to share her fondest memories and what she would like to be remembered for during her nearly 28-year career with the County, her response was, “I have always prided myself on providing excellent customer service and treating everyone equally with dignity and respect.” Ms. Lanning was the lead for several units that were nominated for “Group Employee of the Year” in 2001, 2002 and 2008. Her units won the award in 2001 and 2008. In 2008 Ms. Lanning’s unit received the certificate for “Employee Excellence for Quality Customer Service.” She and her fellow nominees were the first in the County to receive this award.
In addition to her commitment to customer service, Ms. Lanning has always maintained excellent working relationships and she played an important role as a member of the E&E Clerical Operations Supervisor team where she shared her knowledge and experience regarding clerical processes and workflows. Ms. Lanning’s upbeat and positive attitude was an attribute that was admired and respected by those who have had the privilege of working with her. Ms. Lanning will be missed by management, staff and her peers. Her dedication and commitment to clients, staff and the County is greatly appreciated.
Ms. Lanning retired on June 4, 2019 and is looking forward to the next chapter of her life spending time focusing on her health, spending time with her husband Gary and her two children Sarah and Christopher.
