DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

The Department of Health and Social Services recommends that the Board of Supervisors adopt and present a resolution recognizing the week of August 3-9, 2025 as National Health Center Week in Solano County.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

The National Association of Community Health Centers has designated the week of August 3-9, 2025 as National Health Center Week to celebrate community health centers and their contributions to healthcare accessibility and affordability. Community health centers represent the nation’s largest primary care network, serving 32.5 million patients nationwide, according to the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC). The 2025 theme is “Celebrating 60 Years of Progress” and celebrates 60 years of improving our nation’s health.

The journey of community health centers began in 1965 thanks to pioneering doctors and concerned citizens who recognized the critical need for affordable primary care in underserved communities. The first community health centers were originally called neighborhood health centers and targeted local health needs. Today, community health centers provide comprehensive primary and preventative healthcare services to underserved populations across the nation, improving lives and ensuring all individuals, regardless of their ability to pay, have access to quality healthcare.

National Health Center Week offers the opportunity to honor and recognize Solano County’s community health centers and clinics: Solano County Family Health Services, CommuniCare+OLE, La Clinica de la Raza, and Community Medical Centers; as well as the Medi-Cal managed care plans, Partnership HealthPlan of California and Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, that support these efforts. Together, the community health centers in Solano County serve an estimated 70,000 clients.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The costs associated with preparing this agenda item are nominal and are absorbed by the Department’s FY2025/26 Working Budget. The costs associated with preparation and purchase of the resolution materials are included in the Board’s FY2025/26 Working Budget.

The Board could choose not to adopt and present this resolution. This is not recommended as it is an opportunity to recognize the vital safety net role that community health centers provide locally and nationally.
