DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

The Department of Information Technology recommends the Board adopt and present a resolution and plaque of appreciation honoring Shakeel Ajam, IT Infrastructure & Operations Manager, upon his retirement from Solano County with nearly 30 years of total dedicated public service, 12 years of which were with Solano County.

SUMMARY:

Shakeel Ajam, IT Infrastructure and Operations Manager, is retiring from the Department of Information Technology, with over 12 years of dedicated public service to Solano County effective March 6, 2020.  Mr. Ajam has dedicated nearly 30 years of his life public service within the Solano County region with over 17 years being served with the Information Technology Division of the Fairfield Police Department and over 12 years served with Department Information Technology at Solano County.

DISCUSSION:

Shakeel Ajam started his public services on July 16, 1990 as an Information Technology (IT) Manager for the City of Fairfield.  While working in the City of Fairfield Police Department, Mr. Ajam created the first ever booking mug shot application for the City of Fairfield and converted an old mainframe 911 system to a more modern 911 dispatch application.  During his career Mr. Ajam was also responsible for introducing Geographical Information Systems to the City of Fairfield. In 1993, Mr. Ajam received the City of Fairfield’s City Manager accommodation award.

Mr. Ajam was hired on May 21, 2007 by Solano County Department of Information Technology (DoIT) as a Systems Analyst (Sr) in charge of dispatch for the Sheriff’s Department. Mr. Ajam most notably worked on a joint project between the City of Fairfield and Solano County to automate a fingerprint and identification system. Mr. Ajam was promoted on July 31, 2016, to an IT Infrastructure & Operations Manager, overseeing Geographical Information Systems, Web Development, and PeopleSoft teams.

Mr. Ajam retired on March 6, 2020 after serving nearly 30 years of service and during his tenure, Mr. Ajam consistently demonstrated a high level of service and dedication where his impact will continue to be felt for many years.
