DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board receive a presentation by the County Administrator on the selection of Emily Shephard as the April 2025 "Employee of the Month" making Ms. Shephard eligible to use the parking space designated for this program.
SUMMARY / DISCUSSION:
On September 13, 2005, the Board of Supervisors established the County Government Center "Employee of the Month Parking" program for County employees. Each month a County department is designated to select one of its employees as "Employee of the Month". The County Administrator’s Office has selected Emily Shephard as the deserving employee, allowing her to park in the designated parking area for the month of April 2025.
Ms. Shephard started her career with Solano County as an Extra Help Office Assistant II on June 25, 2024, in the Assessor-Recorder’s Office. On September 16, 2024, Ms. Shephard was hired for a permanent position as an Office Assistant II-Confidential in the County Administrator/Clerk of Board office and has staffed the main county phone lines and the 6th Floor reception center since starting. Ms. Shephard quickly learned the county functions and organizational structure so she could answer and assist incoming callers and visitors at the front counter and connect and refer them to the appropriate county department or program for services and assistance. Ms. Shephard has remained a positive and friendly voice and reception face for the Board of Supervisors, County Administrator’s office, and County Counsel. Ms. Shephard demonstrated flexibility and adaptability during the construction of the 6th floor lobby with a positive attitude when she was promptly moved to a temporary location soon after being hired.
Ms. Shephard’s willingness to lend a helping hand has been invaluable, assisting CAO Staff with the coordination of the Holiday Food Fight, playing both a role in the successful distribution of the county’s annual report and assisting with the end-of-year processes for the Clerk of the Board’s office by confirming Board and Commission contact and meeting information. She has been a welcome addition to the county team and is well deserving of the Employee of the Month recognition.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the department’s FY2024/25 Adopted Budget.
ALTERNATIVES:
The Board could elect to name someone else as the “Employee of the Month”; however, this alternative is not recommended as Ms. Shephard is deserving of the Board's "Employee of the Month Parking" program.
