DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board receive a presentation from the Solano County Public Defender’s Office on the selection of Laurie Fischer for “Employee of the Month” for May 2017, making her eligible to use the parking space designated for this program.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
On September 13, 2005 the Board of Supervisors established the County Government Center “Employee of the Month” parking program for County Employees. Each month a County department is designated to select one of its employees as “Employee of the Month.” The Solano County Public Defender’s Office has selected Laurie Fischer as the deserving employee.
Ms. Fischer has almost 23 years of service with Solano County, 18 of those years have been with the Public Defender’s Office. On June 14, 1994, Ms. Fischer started with the Health and Social Services Department as a Clerk. In April 1999, she promoted to the Public Defender’s Office as a Legal Secretary. In 2005, her leadership skills were recognized as she was promoted to the lead position of Legal Secretary, Senior.
Ms. Fisher believes in the work of the Public Defender’s office and is a vital member of the Public Defender’s team. She supports the Public Defender and Deputy Public Defenders in capital cases, other felony cases, and works with Conservatorship clients. Due to her vast experience, Ms. Fischer is the most versatile secretary within the office. She uses this versatility and knowledge to train new legal secretaries. Ms. Fisher’s demonstrated professionalism and excellence in performance of duties serves as a role model for others and reflects well on the Public Defender’s Office and the County. Because of her abilities, her work ethic, and positive attitude, Ms. Fischer is deserving of the “Employee of the Month” recognition.
Ms. Fischer works and lives in Solano County. She has been married to Michael Fischer for 36 years. They have raised five children together. Dylan is her only grandson, and she is expecting her first granddaughter in June.

No additional financial impact is associated with the agenda item.
ALTERNATIVES:
The Board could elect to name someone else as the “Employee of the Month”; however, this alternative is not recommended as Ms. Laurie Fisher is deserving of the Board’s “Employee of the Month” parking program.
