DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the Board receive a presentation by the Human Resources Department on the selection of Antoinette Reyes as the September 2019 “Employee of the Month” making her eligible to use the parking space designated for this program.
SUMMARY:
On September 13, 2005, the Board of Supervisors established the County Government Center “Employee of the Month” parking program for County employees. Each month a County department is designated to select one of its employees as “Employee of the Month.” The Human Resources Department has been designated to select an employee for September 2019.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the department’s FY2019/20 Adopted Budget.
DISCUSSION:
To bestow the Board’s “Employee of the Month” parking award, the Human Resources (HR) staff was asked to nominate a member of the staff for the “Employee of the Month” designation, detailing the reason for the nomination, and to submit nominations to the Human Resources Director. The employee selected for 2019 is Antoinette Reyes.
Ms. Reyes was initially hired in November 2013 as an Office Assistant III supporting the Risk Management division. Beginning in early 2015, Ms. Reyes was the department’s Administrative Secretary until she returned to the Risk Management division in mid-2016 as a Human Resources Assistant. In July 2019, she rotated from the Risk Management division to Human Resources’ Recruitment and Selection division.
Human Resources Assistants perform complex technical and clerical work in receiving, reviewing and processing personnel transactions, employee benefit transactions, recruitment and selection, training, employee relations and other areas within Human Resources. Ms. Reyes works principally in recruitment and selection where she provides support to Human Resources Analysts and applicants for employment.
As part of this transition to recruitment, Ms. Reyes is providing training to the department’s newly hired Administrative Secretary, learning her new responsibilities, and will soon also train the (incoming) employee hired for Human Resources’ Risk Management division.
As described by her colleagues, “Antoinette has shown us what true teamwork looks like. It’s not easy doing one position but here she came through for us when the Administrative Secretary retired and has been doing two positions to help us get through this transition. She is always willing to help when she can and with her knowledge of being in HR, she can help train new staff to the HR team. But, she continues to push herself and learn more parts of HR as she transfers to recruitment and continues her own development.”
ALTERNATIVES:
The Board could elect to name someone else as the “Employee of the Month;” however, this alternative is not recommended as Antoinette Reyes is deserving of the Board’s “Employee of the Month” parking program.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
None.
