DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt a resolution and plaque of appreciation honoring Kristine Sowards, Administrative Secretary, upon her retirement from the Department of Resource Management with 35 years of dedicated public service to Solano County
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Kristine Sowards will be retiring on September 4, 2019 as an Administrative Secretary with the Department of Resource Management after 35 years of excellent service to Solano County and its residents. Ms. Sowards began her career with the Department of Health and Human Services, Adult Services Division as Clerk Typist II on June 18, 1984. She joined the Department of Resource Management’s Planning Division in 1985; was promoted to Minutes Clerk in 1986 and was reclassified to Administrative Secretary in April of 1999 and served in that capacity since.
During her career Ms. Sowards provided administrative support to the Planning Commission, Airport Land Use Commission, Integrated Waste Local Task Force, Solano County Parks and Recreation Commission, and the Tri-City and County Cooperative Planning Group. The support included preparing agendas and minutes, ensuring required notices were published in a timely manner, performing major project mailings, assisting Planning staff with reports, and coordinating meetings and conferences. She provided integral administrative support for important planning projects including the General Plan Update, the Middle Green Valley Specific Plan, and the Countywide Integrated Waste Management Plan. Ms. Sowards’ knowledge of planning processes and deadlines has been critical to the Planning Services Division’s overall workflow and efficiency. Her duties also included performing general administrative support to the Department as a whole.
During Ms. Sowards’ 35 years with the County, she provided invaluable support to the Department, its employees, and the public. Her “can-do”, willing to help, pleasant and positive attitude earned her the respect of management and staff. While she will be greatly missed. We are glad that she will be able to spend more time with her family and pursue recreational opportunities. We wish her well in all her future endeavors.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The cost associated with preparing this agenda item is nominal and is absorbed by the department’s FY2019/20 Adopted Budget. The costs associated with preparation and purchase of the resolution materials and plaque are included in the Board’s FY2019/20 Adopted Budget.
ALTERNATIVES:
The Board may choose not to adopt this resolution and plaque of appreciation. This is not recommended as it is an opportunity to acknowledge Ms. Sowards’ dedicated service to Solano County.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
On August 1, 2019, the Planning Commission verbally thanked Ms. Sowards for her years of service.
