DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

The Sheriff recommends that the Board of Supervisors receive a presentation on the status of County Wildfire Prevention Programs and funding.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

Staff from the Solano County Office of Emergency Services (OES) have worked collaboratively with the County Administrator’s Office, Resource Management Department, Department of Agriculture, Solano Resource Conservation District, the Solano Fire Safe Council, local fire safe councils, several Fire Protection Districts, and PG&E to develop and implement wildfire prevention programs targeting the wildland-urban interface areas within the county. These partnerships have been key in addressing wildfire risks, enhancing community preparedness, and increasing local resilience to wildfires. Attachment A provides a status update on wildfire prevention programs and funding.

Solano County received $1,900,000 in State funding for wildfire prevention efforts, secured by Senator Bill Dodd to be utilized for countywide fire prevention and suppression efforts. Additionally, the County received Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) allocations in calendar years 2019 and 2020, which the Board allocated to specific projects. OES has also secured and completed the 2021 CalFire Fire Prevention Grant Program, and the 2021 and 2022 County Coordinator Grant Programs.

The County has recently applied for the 2025 County Coordinator Grant Program in the amount of $151,500.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

There is no financial impact to the General Fund for the Board to receive this presentation. The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the Sheriff’s FY2024/25 Working Budget.

ALTERNATIVES:

The Board could choose not to receive the report; however, this is not recommended as the update was requested by the County Administrator’s Office and will give the Board of Supervisors and members of the public an update on Wildfire Prevention programs in Solano County.
