DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

Supervisor James requests that the Board of Supervisors approve the appointment of Andre Smith to serve on the Solano County Planning Commission representing District 1 for a term to expire January 31, 2030.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

Andre Smith has more than 20 years of experience in real estate and public service, along with a strong record of leadership, collaboration, and community engagement. His extensive background in real estate brokerage, land use and property matters, government relations, and community advocacy would provide the Solano County Planning Commission with practical expertise and a well-balanced perspective.

In addition to his professional experience, Andre has served on the Solano County Assessment Appeals Board and is a United States military veteran, reflecting his longstanding commitment to public service, accountability, and responsible decision-making. Throughout his career, he has successfully managed complex operations, built productive partnerships, and worked effectively with diverse stakeholders and communities.

Andre’s combination of professional knowledge, public service experience, and collaborative leadership style would support thoughtful planning policies that promote sustainable growth, economic opportunity, and the long-term quality of life for Solano County residents.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the department’s FY2025/26 Working Budget.

ALTERNATIVES:

The Board could choose not to appoint Mr. Smith; however, that is not recommended, as he is highly qualified and brings valuable professional experience, leadership skills, and community insight that would make him a strong addition to the Solano County Planning Commission.
