DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
1) Accept a grant award from the California Fire Foundation totaling $25,000 to the Suisun Fire Protection District for the purchase of wildland personal protective equipment (PPE); and
2) Accept a donation of equipment totaling $20,000 from the NorthBay Health to the Suisun Fire Protection District.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The Board of Directors for the Suisun Fire Protection District is being asked to accept a grant from the California Fire Foundation totaling $25,000 for the purchase of approximately 30 sets of wildland PPE. The Suisun Fire Protection District applied for the grant in order to remain compliant with standards for maintaining its safety equipment. This PPE purchase includes coats, pants, helmets, gloves and fire shelters.
The California Fire Foundation is a 501(C)3 that provides emotional and financial assistance to families of fallen firefighters, firefighters, and the communities they protect. Typical grants programs include funds for Vegetation Mitigation & Fuels Reduction; Planning, Public Education, and/or Community Outreach Campaigns; Personal Protective Equipment; Specialized Firefighting Equipment; First Responder Training; and Relief & Recovery.
The Suisun Fire Protection District is also requesting approval to receive a donation of equipment totaling $20,000 in value from NorthBay Health for a LUCAS chest compression system. LUCAS devices assist in delivering chest compressions, which are essential when performing CPR, improving the flow of oxygenated blood to vital organs, thus improving the chances for survival.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the Department’s FY2025/26 Working Budget.
ALTERNATIVES:
The Board may choose not to approve the grant acceptance and/or receive the donation; however, both the grant and the donation assist the District in providing services.
