DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
Supervisor Williams recommends that the Board of Supervisors adopt a resolution recognizing September 20-26, 2026, as Delta Week in Solano County.
SUMMARY/ DISCUSSION:
Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Week is an annual observance held during the last full week of September to recognize the ecological, economic and cultural importance of the California Delta. Established in 2022 through Senate Concurrent Resolution 119, authored by then-state Senator Bill Dodd, Delta Week celebrates the region’s unique natural resources, communities and contributions to California.
The observance often coincides with Coastal Cleanup Day, providing an opportunity to raise awareness about protecting the Delta and the state’s broader watershed, preventing pollution, preserving critical habitat and supporting the communities, farms and businesses that depend on the region.
In announcing the observance, Senator Dodd emphasized the Delta’s significance to California: “The Delta is vital to our state as both a natural resource teeming with abundant wildlife and fish and a vital economic driver for tourism, recreation and Delta farmers. It is a cherished watershed and the very lifeblood of California’s water system. We must continue to protect it for future generations by preventing pollution and further marshland degradation and promoting its environmental health.”
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the Board’s FY2026/27 Working Budget. The costs associated with preparation and purchase of the resolution materials are included in the Board’s FY2026/27 Working Budget.
ALTERNATIVES:
The Board could choose not to adopt this resolution but that would not be recommended as the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta is vital to our state and to Solano County.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
There is no other agency involvement.
