DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
The Probation Department recommends the Board of Supervisors adopt a resolution and approve a plaque of appreciation honoring Tammy Dewitt, Supervising Deputy Probation Officer, upon her retirement from the Solano County Probation Department, with over 26 years of dedicated public service to Solano County.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Tammy Dewitt began her employment with the Solano County Probation Department as Deputy Probation Officer on September 7, 1999, and was promoted to Supervising Deputy Probation Officer on November 21, 2014.
Ms. Dewitt provided 26 years of service to the Solano County community, serving in a wide range of assignments within the Department, applying leadership, professional skills, supervision, support, and guidance of probation clients and staff in Solano County.
During her career, Ms. Dewitt was influential in many ways and through different assignments in the Adult and Juvenile Divisions. While a majority of her career was in the Adult Court Investigations Unit, she also worked in various capacities as a Domestic Violence Supervision Officer, Level of Service/Case Management Inventory Assessor, Post-Release Community Supervision, General Supervision, Juvenile Placement, Juvenile Court Investigations, and at the Juvenile Detention Facility, as extra-help. Tammy was also a Department Trainer, a facilitator of cognitive behavioral interventions and Real Colors, and a facilitator for the Chief Probation Officers of California’s Supervisor Leadership Academy.
Tammy’s passion for her profession was most evident in her work within Adult Court Investigations. She consistently produced high quality written work, conducted thorough investigations, and prepared detailed reports and accurate assessments that provided the Court with a well-supported recommendation to assist in making informed sentencing decisions.
During the later years of her career, Tammy was assigned to lead an essential role as Supervising Deputy Probation Officer of the Department’s New Hire Training and Development Program, where she was given a special assignment to train new staff in Adult Court Investigations. Here, her expertise was invaluable and integral to the program’s success.
Ms. Dewitt’s contributions extend beyond her work with the clients on her caseload. She was a valued leader who used her voice to support positive solutions and willingly took on projects that helped the Department address challenges. Her collaborative nature and willingness to help in several areas made her highly regarded within the Department. Her staff and peers could always count on her for her wisdom, steady leadership, and a willingness to step in wherever needed.
Ms. Dewitt has impacted the lives of many throughout her Probation career, in her role as a department leader, probation officer, colleague, trainer, and mentor. Her professionalism, collaborative and effective relationships within the Department, and with Law enforcement agencies and community partners throughout the county are greatly admired.
Ms. Dewitt enters retirement, she leaves behind not only a career of distinguished public service but a legacy of hard work and dedication to public safety, and a department made better by her presence. Her expertise is irreplaceable, and her absence will be felt deeply.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the Department’s FY2025/26 Adopted Budget. The costs associated with preparation and purchase of the resolution materials and plaque are included in the Board’s FY2025/26 Adopted Budget.
ALTERNATIVES:
The Board could choose not to adopt the resolution and plaque of appreciation. This is not recommended as this is an opportunity to recognize Tammy Dewitt’s dedication and contributions to Solano County.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
There is no other agency involvement.
