DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

Chair Monica Brown recommends that the Board of Supervisors adopt and present a resolution recognizing the month of March 2026 as Red Cross Month in Solano County.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

The American Red Cross embodies the humanitarian spirit that is woven into the fabric of our community. In times of crisis, its dedicated volunteers and generous donors step forward to help neighbors and families in need, fulfilling the organization’s mission to prevent and alleviate human suffering.

Here in Solano County over the past year, 220 American Red Cross volunteers assisted 74 families impacted by home fires, providing emotional support, addressing immediate needs, and helping families begin their recovery through emergency financial assistance and connections to community resources. The Red Cross also served 506 residents through home fire safety and disaster preparedness education, collected 336 units of lifesaving blood through 17 local blood drives, delivered international humanitarian assistance, and supported 571 military members, veterans, and their families.

In recognition of these efforts, we proudly proclaim March 2026 as Red Cross Month in Solano County. We honor those who give generously of their time, talent, and financial support to serve neighbors in need, and we encourage others to join their ranks, continuing the proud legacy of the American Red Cross and strengthening our community for generations to come.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by District 2’s FY2025/26 Working Budget. The cost associated with the preparation and purchase of the resolution materials are included in the Board’s FY2025/26 Working Budget.

ALTERNATIVES:

The Board of Supervisors could choose not to adopt this resolution but that would not be recommended as this recognition is an opportunity to bring awareness to the important work of the American Red Cross and acknowledge the kindness and compassion of its many dedicated volunteers.
