DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

Supervisor Hannigan requests that the Solano County Board of Supervisors adopt a resolution celebrating the Workforce Development Board of Solano County on the Grand Opening of the new Fairfield Job Center.  This resolution will be presented at the Grand Opening on August 29th at 4:00 pm at 500 Chadbourne Drive, Fairfield.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

The Workforce Development Board of Solano County (WDB) works to build and sustain a skilled workforce, support a vibrant economy, and create a shared prosperity for the community of Solano County. The WDB has acted as the administrative entity for Solano County of the federally funded Department of Labor (DOL) workforce development programs since 1983 - as the Private Industry Council of Solano County (PIC) under the Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA); as the Workforce Investment Board of Solano County (WIB) under the Workforce Investment Act (WIA); and as the Workforce Development Board of Solano County (WDB) under the Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA).

The WDB has thus developed the reputation as the "HUB" of hiring activity serving businesses and job seekers throughout Solano County by meeting the talent needs of business and preparing job seekers for employment opportunities that foster economic mobility in our communities.  The WDB has been a leading collaborator amongst education providers, local governments, employment service providers, small businesses, labor & construction trades, and local economic development agencies, to institute successful workforce development initiatives that establish a skilled workforce and robust talent pipeline across traditional and emerging industries in Solano County.

The grand opening of the new Fairfield Job Center located at 500 Chadbourne Road is the result of a longstanding partnership and co-location of the WDB and workforce partners. On average, the WDB annually serves over 9,000 individuals with basic employment services from Solano County’s Job Centers, around 500 individuals with intensive employment services, and approximately 400 employers with talent and business consultation services.
