DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

The Department of Health and Social Services (H&SS) recommends the Board adopt and present a resolution declaring April 2-8, 2012 as Public Health Week in Solano County.

SUMMARY:

For more than a decade, American Public Health Association (APHA) and communities around the country have recognized National Public Health Week each April by highlighting public health achievements and raising awareness of issues important to improving the public's health.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The staff time associated with the preparation of this item is budgeted within the Department's Fiscal Year 2011/2012 budget.

DISCUSSION:

Each year, the APHA, selects a different issue around which to rally together and focus on efforts to protect the nation's health.  During National Public Health Week 2012, APHA will continue its broad vision to make America the healthiest nation in one generation by building on the National Prevention Strategy, created by the National Prevention Council, to improve health and wellness across the lifespan.  National Public Health Week will help educate families, communities and public officials about the importance of creating environments that promote healthy lifestyles and healthy choices.  This year's theme is "A Healthier America Begins TODAY.  Join the Movement!"
