Approve an engagement letter between the Montezuma Fire Protection District and Fechter and Company, Certified Public Accountants, to conduct financial audits for FY2023/24 and FY2024/25 for a total cost of $34,182.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

In accordance with Government Code §26909, special districts including fire districts are required to conduct biennial audits as determined by their Board of Directors.

The Board of Supervisors, in its capacity as the Board of Directors for the Vacaville Fire Protection District, is being asked to complete financial audit reports for FY2023/24 and FY2024/25 financial statements.  At this time the Board is being asked to approve an engagement letter with Scott German, CPA, to complete this work.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

The anticipated cost of the FY2023/24 audit is $17,530 and the cost of the FY2024/25 audit is $16,652 for a total of $34,182.  The financial audit costs are included in the Districts FY2025/26 Working Budget. The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the Department’s FY2025/26 Working Budget.

ALTERNATIVES:

The Board may choose not to proceed with an audit at this time, however this is not recommended as there is a need to provide current audits for County and State compliance purposes.

OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:

None.
