DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
Supervisor Mashburn requests that the Board authorize the County's contribution of $2,000 from the General Fund contribution allocated to District 5 to benefit the following organizations: Suisun City Youth Commission ($1,000) and the Salvation Army ($1,000)
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
District 5 has identified two local non-profit organizations for which to contribute its non-county contribution allocation. These agencies directly impact and enrich the lives of residents in Solano County through community support programs.
Suisun City Youth Commission ($1,000)
Plans are underway for Suisun City's 1st Annual Kwanzaa Celebration at 6:30pm on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at the Joseph Nelson Community Center. The Suisun City Youth Commission has always been at the forefront of promoting unity, self-determination, and cooperative economics within the African American community, and their annual Kwanzaa event is a testament to those shared values. The celebration aims to bring the community together, while also educating and inspiring individuals of all ages to embrace their cultural heritage.
Salvation Army ($1,000)
For more than a century Salvation Army has been a champion for those often forgotten in society. Their programs for helping the homeless rise out of their situation are some of the most successful in the areas they are planted. When emergency strikes, we see their red truck come to provide comfort, warmth, and a hot meal.
