DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
Supervisor Williams requests that the Board of Supervisors authorize the County's contribution of $1,750 from the General Fund contribution allocated to District 3 to benefit the following organizations, including Pearls of Wisdom Educational Resources, Inc. ($1,000) and the Solano County Library Foundation ($750).
SUMMARY/ DISCUSSION:
District 3 has identified two (2) local non-profit organizations for which to contribute its non-county contribution allocation, including:

The Tau Upsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Sorority Incorporated is a proud supporter of youth in North Solano County. Through their foundation, Pearls of Wisdom Educational Resources, and the chapter's charter in 1993, they have provided over $200,000 in scholarship money to students who have the drive, passion, and commitment to further their educational career and give back to their community.
Tau Upsilon Omega Chapter's Scholarship Committee takes a holistic approach in evaluating applications and is looking for well-rounded students who value academics, community involvement, and extra-curricular activities. This is a great opportunity for African American students who are in their senior year of high school in North Solano County while attending schools in: Dixon, Fairfield, Rio Vista and Vacaville. The scholarships are awarded at the AKA Sorority's Annual Baccalaureate Ceremony at the end each school year.
