DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
The Department of General Services recommends that the Board of Supervisors present a plaque of appreciation to Fred Connor, Senior Buyer, upon his retirement from the Department of General Services with over 16 years of dedicated service to Solano County.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Fred Connor will retire from County service effective August 2, 2017 spending 6 years as a County Buyer and the past 10 years of service as the County's Senior Buyer with the Department of General Services.
Fred began his County career in October 2001 as a Procurement Services Officer, in the Department of General Services. In 2002, during a classification and compensation study, Fred was reclassified to Buyer and then in 2007, Fred was promoted to the Senior Buyer classification; the position he has held until his retirement.
As the Senior Buyer, Fred has assisted the two Buyers and the Central Services team in securing bids and purchasing a variety of items and commodities for departments.
During his tenure as the Senior Buyer, Fred has advanced initiatives to transition purchasing and procurement into electronic procurement and assisted with streamlining procurement practices for the County. As a buyer he has purchased countless vehicles for the County Sheriff and was instrumental in the procurement of the County's Urban Assault Vehicle and capably annually secured commodities for the Resource Management Department for all road repair and maintenance materials including procuring the needed trucking services.
