DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
Supervisor Vasquez requests that the Board of Supervisors authorize the County's contribution of $500 from the General Fund contribution allocated to District 4 to benefit the California Human Development organization.
SUMMARY / DISCUSSION:
California Human Development ($500)
For more than 55 years, California Human Development (CDH) has been committed to empowering individuals from underserved communities across California. Their programs focus on fostering self-sufficiency and independence by providing affordable housing, job training, education, and essential support services to thousands of individuals and families each year. CHD was founded to serve Northern California's hardworking farmworkers, who are the backbone of our agricultural industry. These funds are intended for their Dixon Farmworker Services office to support the new season at the Dixon Migrant Center.
The Dixon Migrant Center provides low-cost housing for migrant families with agricultural or cannery income and offers 2, 3, and 4-bedroom houses for migrant families at a daily rate of $11.50 - $12.50 a day. Each year before the Farming season begins in the Dixon area, they work with partners to ensure the families entering the center have the supplies they need.
Guidelines for Grant Funding Requests:
During the 2024/25 Budget Hearings, the Board appropriated $75,000, $15,000 to each supervisorial district, to allow Board members to support community service programs. The Board directed County Counsel to provide guidelines on how to recommend funding for qualifying agencies or programs. The guidelines are as follows:
