DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

The Department of Human Resources recommends the Board of Supervisors adopt a resolution amending the Alphabetical Listing of Classes and Salaries to add the classification of Latent Print Examiner I with a monthly salary range of $5,457.11 - $6,633.16 and amend the title of Latent Fingerprint Examiner to Latent Print Examiner II with no change to the salary range.

SUMMARY:

The existing Latent Fingerprint Examiner classification is being revised for future recruitment efforts and to create an entry level classification to allow for recruitment of entry level candidates who can be trained and promoted to the journey level once the necessary skills and experience are obtained. The new Latent Print Examiner I and amended Latent Print Examiner II classifications were approved by the Civil Service Commission on March 12, 2025.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

There is no cost to adding the Latent Print Examiner I salary to the Listing of Classes and Salaries. Funding for this position is included in the Sheriff's FY2024/25 Working Budget. The costs of preparing this agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the Department's FY2024/25 Working Budget.

DISCUSSION:

The Latent Print Examiner classification is exclusive to the Sheriff's Office and currently is an experienced journey level classification that requires certification as a latent print examiner, as well as previous work experience performing skilled technical work on friction ridge detail examinations for criminal identification.
