DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

The Sheriff recommends that the Board of Supervisors:

1. Approve a contract with Anne Chiruvolu, D.V.M. with a not to exceed amount of $153,466 to provide veterinary services for the period July 28, 2025 through June 30, 2026;

2. Delegate authority to the County Administrator to execute the contract and any subsequent amendments, pending County Counsel concurrence, with an annual aggregate not to exceed $74,999; and

3. Authorize the Sheriff, Undersheriff and Director of Administrative Services to execute contract amendments which are administrative or technical in nature.

SUMMARY/ DISCUSSION:

Sheriff's Office Animal Care Services (Animal Care) currently contracts with two veterinarians: one serving as the managing veterinarian at 32 hours per week, and a second providing up to 8 hours per week, as availability permits. To meet the veterinary needs of the shelter, including mandated medical care, spay/neuter procedures, and oversight of public services such as vaccinations and the community clinic, Animal Care requires up to 64 hours of veterinary coverage per week.
