DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
The Probation Department recommends the Board of Supervisors adopt and present a resolution and plaque of appreciation honoring Shannon West, Supervising Deputy Probation Officer, upon her retirement from the Solano County Probation Department, with over 23 years of dedicated public service to Solano County.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Shannon West began her career with the Solano County Probation Department as a Deputy Probation Officer on December 9th, 2002, was promoted to Senior Deputy Probation Officer on July 30th, 2006, and promoted to Supervising Deputy Probation Officer on April 21st, 2019.
Ms. West was a champion for foster youth and system improvement. Throughout more than a decade as a Foster Youth Probation Officer, she helped delinquency-involved youth overcome trauma, recognize their impact on the community, and build pathways toward successful adulthood. Beyond her direct casework, she collaborated with Child Welfare Services on statewide System Improvement Plans to reduce homelessness among foster youth transitioning from care.
Ms. West was a leader in evidence-based practices and youth development. Believing in the power of human potential and the importance of meeting individuals where they are, she was an early advocate for evidence-based practices and was selected as part of the Department's inaugural cohort of Motivational Interviewing trainers, to help introduce and sustain a communication approach that continues to strengthen engagement, accountability, and positive outcomes for youth and adults.
