DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
The Department of Health and Social Services recommends that the Board of Supervisors adopt and present a resolution recognizing May 6 - 12, 2025 as National Nurses Week in Solano County.
SUMMARY:
The Department of Health and Social Services (H&SS), Public Health Division, joins the American Nurses Association, hospitals, and many other healthcare agencies and organizations in recognizing National Nurses Week, which is traditionally celebrated May 6th through May 12th each year. This is an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the efforts of dedicated nurses in the performance of their duties throughout Solano County.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The costs associated with activities in recognition of public observances are included in the Department's FY2024/25 Working Budget. The costs associated with preparation and purchase of the resolution materials are included in the Board's FY2024/25 Working Budget. There is no additional impact to the County General Fund.
DISCUSSION:
National Nurses Week is celebrated annually between May 6th, National Nurses Day, and May 12th, the birthday of celebrated nurse Florence Nightingale. National Nurses Week celebrates the importance of nurses and their contributions to the health of individuals, families, communities and populations they serve.
The 2025 international theme for National Nurses Week is "Caring for Nurses Strengthens Economies." The 2025 theme highlights the importance of supporting the physical and mental health of nurses and highlights how a healthy and secure nursing workforce is crucial to the overall functioning of healthcare.
