DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
The Director of Probation recommends the Board of Supervisors adopt and present a resolution recognizing July 20-26, 2025 as Probation Services Week in Solano County.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The American Probation and Parole Association (APPA) has designated July 20 through July 26, 2025 as Probation Services Week nationally. This year marks the twenty-fifth annual Probation Services Week, a celebration that originated when APPA members began to request the states recognize community supervision professionals across the country. The theme for this year from APPA is "Heroes Behind the Mission; Changing Lives, Enhancing Public Safety."
The week recognizes Probation Officers and Juvenile Correctional Counselors as a part of a team of Probation professionals, who play a unique role in the justice system by promoting rehabilitation, enhancing public safety, and reducing recidivism through structured supervision, programming, and support. Probation professionals balance the need for accountability with the opportunity for individuals to engage in treatment and rehabilitation, providing the structure and support necessary to change lives and reduce future crime. Understanding the vital role probation agencies play in our communities, the Solano County Probation Department (Department) is committed to enhancing public awareness of their services and is eager to take part in Probation Services Week.
The Department employs 95 Deputy Probation Officers, one Mental Health Clinician, three Social Workers, four Social Service Workers, and 62 other Probation professionals to supervise and support currently 1667 adults and 144 youth, as well as 62 Juvenile Correctional Counselors to supervise youth detained at the...
