DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
Supervisor Vasquez requests that the Board adopt and present a resolution recognizing November as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome Awareness Month.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, formerly known as Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, is a chronic neuro-inflammatory disorder. CRPS occurs when the nervous system and immune system malfunction as they respond to tissue damage from trauma. The nerves misfire, sending constant pain signals to the brain. CRPS is an evolving and constantly changing disorder, making it difficult for even the most knowledgeable doctors to correctly diagnose and treat the disorder.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact associated with this resolution.
ALTERNATIVES:
The Board could choose not to adopt this resolution. This is not recommended because this is an opportunity to raise public awareness of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome.
OTHER AGENCY INVOLVEMENT:
None.
