DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
Supervisor Jim Spering requests the Board adopt and present a resolution recognizing Gary Gottschall, the 60th Operations Group Deputy Commander, for his significant contributions to Solano County during his 8 years of service at Travis AFB. He will be departing at the end of January to take an instructor position at the Air University, Maxwell AFB, Alabama.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Gary Gottschall has worked closely with City and County officials for the past six years, building strong and enduring relationships. His efforts have helped elected officials and their staffs become familiar with the mission and readiness requirements of Travis Air Force Base.
He initiated tours and familiarization flights to ensure elected officials and staff members were educated and informed about the base and its needs leading to well informed decision making.
In his role as advisor to the Airport Land Use Commission, he was instrumental in the process of updating the Travis Air Force Base Land Use Compatibility, bringing together appropriate subject matter experts to help forge long-term policies that balance development needs of the County and cities while ensuring Travis Air Force Base remains a vital national strategic asset.
He devoted countless hours assessing project proposals allowing local developers to achieve their objectives without adversely impacting the mission and training needs of Travis Air Force Base.
