DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

The Department of Health and Social Services recommends that the Board of Supervisors adopt and present a resolution and plaque of appreciation recognizing Dr. Bela T. Matyas, Chief Deputy Health - Health Officer, upon his retirement from Solano County with 15 years of service in the Department of Health and Social Services, and 37 years of dedicated public service.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

Dr. Bela T. Matyas began his career in mid-1988 as the Chief of Environmental Health Risk Assessment with the Rhode Island Department of Health. In 1991, he was promoted to Medical Director of Disease Control and State Epidemiologist. In 1995, Dr. Matyas joined the Massachusetts Department of Public Health as Medical Director of the Epidemiology Program. In 2008, he began working with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) as Chief of the Disease Investigations Section. He was later promoted to Chief of the Communicable Disease Emergency Response Branch.

In 2010, Dr. Matyas joined Solano County's Health and Social Services Department as Health Officer and Deputy Director of the Public Health Division. In 2023, Dr. Matyas was promoted to Chief Deputy Health - Health Officer.

During Dr. Bela Matyas's 15 years as Solano County's Health Officer, the Health and Social Services Department advanced its mission to promote and protect the health of all residents.
