DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
The Department of Health and Social Services recommends that the Board of Supervisors adopt and present a resolution recognizing May 6-12, 2026, as National Nurses Week in Solano County.
SUMMARY:
The Department of Health and Social Services (H&SS), Public Health Division, joins the American Nurses Association, hospitals, and many other health care agencies and organizations in recognizing National Nurses Week, which is traditionally celebrated May 6th through May 12th each year. This is an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the efforts of dedicated nurses performing their duties throughout Solano County.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The costs associated with activities in recognition of National Nurses Week are included in the Department's FY2025/26 Working Budget. The costs associated with the preparation and purchase of the resolution materials are included in the Board's FY2025/26 Working Budget.
DISCUSSION:
In 1994, the American Nursing Association (ANA) designated May 6th through the 12th as National Nurses Week. This weeklong observance highlights the value of nurses as healthcare workers and their critical contributions to health across the lifespan of individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations. Each year, the ANA and other nursing organizations promote Nurses Week as a time to thank and recognize nurses for their dedication to the profession and the clients they serve.
In 2026, the theme is "The Power of Nurses," which emphasizes three core attributes among nurses: resilience in healthcare delivery, leadership in patient advocacy, and compassion in clinical practice.
