DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
Supervisor Mashburn requests that the Board of Supervisors approve the reappointment of Gene Gantt to serve on the Civil Service Commission representing District 5 for a term to expire January 1, 2029.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
Gene Gantt has devoted his life to service, retiring as the Chief of the Benicia Fire Department in 2008 after 37 years of fire service experience in Solano County. Mr. Gantt brings with him those characteristics necessary to be a great firefighter - excellent communication skills, sound decision-making, and the mindset of a team player. These same characteristics have suited Mr. Gantt well in serving the past four years and will continue to do so in another term on the Civil Service Commission.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The costs associated with preparing the agenda item are nominal and absorbed by the department’s FY2024/25 Working Budget.
ALTERNATIVES:
The Board could choose not to appoint Gene Gantt, but that would not be recommended as he is well qualified, brings a lifetime of local experience, and is a proven leader who has been a valuable resource in his first term on the commission.
