DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
The Sheriff recommends that the Board of Supervisors adopt and present a resolution and plaque of appreciation honoring Sergeant John Arabia upon his retirement from the Sheriff's Office with over 29 years of dedicated public service to Solano County.
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
John Arabia began his career with Solano County's Sheriff's Office as a Deputy Sheriff on September 3, 1989.
Sergeant Arabia was assigned to numerous bureaus within the Public Safety Division, including Patrol, Courts Security, Civil, Transportation, the Solano Narcotics Enforcement Team and the California Multi-Jurisdictional Methamphetamine Enforcement Team.
Sergeant Arabia was selected as the Sheriff's Office Deputy of the Year for 1992 and was awarded the Medal of Valor for rescuing citizens from an apartment house fire on August 14, 1992.
Sergeant Arabia was promoted to Sergeant-Sheriff on December 13, 2009. During his career, Sergeant Arabia served as a Field Training Officer, Firearms Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Impact Weapons Instructor, Taser Instructor, and a member of the Sheriff's Bicycle Patrol Team and Mobile Field Force; and was an original, founding member of the Sheriff's Defensive Tactics Team, Bicycle Patrol Team, and Mobile Field Force.
Sergeant Arabia was a valued and respected member of the Sheriff's Office and will be greatly missed by his friends and co-workers. The resolution honors John Arabia for his 29 years of service and commends his dedication and public service to Solano County. Sergeant Arabia's official last date of employment with the Sheriff's Office was December 29, 2018.
