DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

First 5 Solano recommends the Board of Supervisors to approve the appointment of new member Joti Takhar to the Solano County Child Care Planning Council (SCCPC) for the term of June 3, 2025 - June 2, 2027.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

Welfare and Institution code ?10485 requires the concurrence of the Board of Supervisors and the County Superintendent of Schools in appointing the SCCPC's membership. One half of the members are appointed by the Superintendent of Schools and the other half are appointed by the Board of Supervisors; the one additional member is by concurrence. State law also requires that SCCPC membership be distributed as follows: 20% consumers of child care services, 20% child care providers, 20% community representatives, 20% public agency representatives, and the remaining 20% from any of the above categories at the discretion of the Board and Superintendent of Schools.

Ms. Joti Takhar will serve on the Council as a child care provider, bringing her valuable expertise as an assistant director at the Solano Community College Early Learning Center. Ms. Takhar has supervised a diverse team of lab assistants, student interns and teachers. She has successfully held the roles of classroom teacher, supervisor, trainer, facilitator, and mentor for the Child Development and Family Studies (CDFS) practicum students. She regularly collaborates with the Early Learning Center specialists to create a high-quality learning environment and has over 20 years of experience working with children, adult students, staff, and community members.
