DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:

The Sheriff recommends that the Board of Supervisors adopt a resolution and plaque of appreciation honoring Custody Sergeant Neil Wakabayashi upon his retirement from the Sheriff's Office with over 33 years of dedicated public service to Solano County.

SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:

Neil Wakabayashi began his career with Solano County Sheriff's Office as an extra-help Correctional Officer on August 22, 1991. He was promoted to Correctional Officer (Entry) on November 24, 1991, and to Correctional Officer on August 30, 1992. On March 9, 2008 he was promoted to Custody Sergeant, a position he held until his retirement. Sergeant Wakabayashi held numerous positions within the Custody Division, including booking officer, receiving officer, roving officer, inmate worker officer, jail training officer, floor Sergeant, and receiving Sergeant. He also worked with the Medical Housing Unit, Men's Treatment Program, Facility Search Team, Alternative Sentencing Program.

Sergeant Wakabayashi served as a member of the Facility Search Team and as a Jail Training Officer. In June of 2014, he was commended for stopping a suicide attempt at the Justice Center Detention Facility and in July of 2014 was commended for his responsiveness in identifying drugs at the Justice Center Detention Facility that led to preventing the introduction of drugs into our jail. Sergeant Wakabayashi was known for his exceptional organizational skills, adaptability, diplomacy, and extraordinary level of common sense.
