DEPARTMENTAL RECOMMENDATION:
The Department of General Services recommends that the Board of Supervisors Approve an Appropriation Transfer Request of $20,000 from Accumulated Capital Outlay Fund Contingency to the BU1999 Public Health Laboratory Biosafety Cabinet Modifications Project in support of replacing one biosafety cabinet (4/5 vote required).
SUMMARY/DISCUSSION:
The Department of General Services is requesting additional funding to complete construction of the Public Health Laboratory Biosafety Cabinet Project (Project).
On June 22, 2023, the Board approved the Project, which originally included the removal of an existing ducted biosafety cabinet, modification of the existing building exhaust, installation of self-ventilated biosafety cabinet provided by Health & Social Services (H&SS) Department, and associated patching and repair work. Additionally, air balance of the space is required to ensure proper air pressure within the laboratory space once the replacement is completed. Since that time, a second ducted biosafety cabinet, located in the main laboratory has failed. This unit is critical to laboratory operations as the laboratory serves Napa, Solano, Yolo, and Marin counties, and its replacement has become an urgent need.
The Project is scheduled for completion in June 2025.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
